Simple Stories free digital elements

Happy Leap Day everyone!

I love Simple Stories and I especially love when things are 'free'!  They have some free digital downloads on their website.  The ones available now are educational and everyday life themes.  With one easy click, you can download them to your computer and print them out on your computer.  Really easy!

For this project I combined a few papers from their 100 days of Summer collection and some digital download elements.  This is a photo-less layout as the focus is on Anna's report card for Chinese school.  I have it tucked in the pocket with a slide out pull.  On the front , I embellished with some of the digital elements and added some journaling.

A sweet Bo Bunny giveaway!

Since starting my own blog a few months ago I have been on the fence about Facebook.  To FB or not? I do have a Facebook profile but with some more reading into the options out there I have decided to create a  Facebook Page - content will be mostly crafty talk.

I'd like to celebrate my new FB page with a little giveaway!  I love my sweets but I do feel a little bombarded with the all the chocolate and candy at the stores.  First Christmas, Valentines Day, and then Easter!  If you are feeling the same then hopefully you will like my giveaway- it is the Sweet Tooth collection from Bo Bunny!  Yummy goodies here, scrumptious pattern papers, diecuts, stickers, stamps, chipboard, metal trinkets...and the best part you can consume it all - calorie free!

To win this delicious Bo Bunny bundle, please leave a comment here in this blog post for the random draw. A random winner will be announced on March 1, 2012 .

Have a great week!

Sketch Support- One page week

Date of Post: Wednesday January 23, 2012

I am a total 'heart' freak so it's no wonder that I created projects for all of Allison Davis February's sketches over at Sketch Support.  This week is one page sketch week.  I pretty much followed the sketch with the exception that I made the photo block smaller and I placed hearts bound by twine in a row.

This layout is about Anna taking quilling by the storm.  I wanted to get into quilling.  Bought the tools, the glue, the little strips of paper, and a few books.  Once I finished a few quills...I gave up.  My fingers and total lack of coordination was my demise.  In comes Anna, she read the instructions and followed them and voila she was creating her own underworld water scene with tropical fish and mermaids! I was the helper holding the pins in place for the glue to set.   I used some SEI paper and MME papers for that bright and tropical feel.

This sketch you can download over at Sketch Support plus see all the other wonderful and creative ideas the DT team has created.

Title: Every 'heart' speaks bliss to me

Just wanted to share another 2 page layout for my aunt's album.  I created this project using inspiration from Sketch Support's add-on  sketch.  Some great ideas over at Sketch support this week!

This 2 page layout uses Authentique's Gathering collection.  I used mainly the blues from the collection and added a pop of colour with orange hearts.  The tag sentiment on the left page originally reads "Every leaf speaks bliss to me" so I covered up the leaf word with a heart shape to create a new title "Every heart speaks bliss to me".  I loved sewing little falling hearts as accents on both pages.

I tell you scrapping this past month has really helped me get through this nasty cough and cold.  If I try resting...I'll keep coughing and wheezing...but when I am scrapping...I seem to be okay!  Hmmm..maybe cold bugs don't affect our right-brain (creative) side!

Valentine's Day- a perfect match!

Happy Valentine’s Day! Here is a fun little 3D tag I made for Scrapbook and Cards Today blog.

The matchbook tag is so simple and fun to make, here is how:

Take a 2 ¼ x 5 ½ inch white cardstock and score at ½ , 3, and 3 ¼ inch marks.
Fold on the scored lines and place a staple in the centre of the wider fold which is the bottom of the matchbook.
Make little matchsticks hearts and tuck into the bottom fold with a little glue dot.  You can buy match sticks at any craft store or dollar store. Decorate the matchbook as you wish!
Supplies: Authentique pattern paper, Twinery twine

Thanks for stopping by, hope you have a wonderful day with the people you ((heart))!

Comfort Words

This past month I have had my share of comforts food (homemade chicken soup), comfort drinks (lemon, honey tea), comfort clothes (my flannel PJ;s), comfort hugs (from hubby and daughter), to help me through my terrible cold.  One morning a few weeks ago I was in really rough shape and Mark took Anna to school so that I could sleep in to rest.  Anna left a little note by the coffee machine knowing that I make a bee line there first thing in the morning.  It sure brightened my spirits when I read her note.  I used a Authentique's Gathering collection with a fabulous sketch by Becky Fleck on Scrapbook and Cards Today's website to scrap this memory.

Sketch Support- using Authentique Gathering collection

Allison created an amazing 2 page sketch over at Sketch Support.  There have been some amazing ideas of so many themes.  I love seeing everyone's interpretation of the sketch this week!

My interpretation of the 2 page sketch was to squeeze it to a one page layout.  Imagine pushing the 2 page sketch together...I kept the photo block from the left side and the flowers from the right side.

I used pretty Authentique (Gathering collection) pattern paper and coordinating diecut labels.  The couple is my cousin and her husband- you saw them earlier this week.  The long title I made by combining a pre-made tag and continued the title across the photo.  I kept to the dimensions of the photo block in the sketch and added a hidden journal element under the photos.  I really love how this page turned out and then Aunt's album is 8.5 x 8.5 and this is a 12 x 12 page.  Brain fart! (but I'm still sick with this cold ..grr... so that's my excuse) . I'll keep this page for my album and make another one (smaller) for my Aunt's album.

Have a great weekend!

Summer Fun!

Anna and I love hanging out in our craft room. She is actually a pretty good 'lil scrapper and I let her use everything I own.  One thing that she doesn't really care for is Tim Holtz (yikes can't believe I said that...sorry Tim!).  Actually I should qualify that...she doesn't really like anything all my 7Gypsies, Graphic 45, Tim Holtz collectables are safe.

I like to ink the edges of paper and when I ask Anna if she likes a layout, she replies:
"I kinda like it but why do you always have to do that Tim Holtz-ey thing with the inking?"

So with this summer layout using beautiful papers by Simple Stories I resisted any inking and believe me I would have inked all the edges of the paper to make it pop off the white background.   I showed Anna this page and she gave it two thumbs up! yay!

Authentique- Gathering collection

My younger cousin, Jen, married last year.  I use to babysit her when she was a wee one...changed her diapers, bottled fed her, played and cooed with her and now I can't believe she has blossomed into a beautiful young woman...okay now I feel old, lol!

I am making an album for my Aunt (Jen's mom) and Authentique's Gathering collection is perfect!  I like to keep things very simple working with one (two max) paper collections, a few punches, some alphas, and I always keep my diecuts within easy reach.  This is my second time working with these photos as I did make an album for Jen.  Her album I made one week prior to her wedding reception so I felt a little more pressure to finish it so I'm loving that I can take my time with this 2nd round.

Cootie Catchers

Good morning! (and yes it is a great morning for me! - this is the first day in the past 13 days that I didn't wake up with a hacking nasty cough...yup really sick these past 2 weeks grr..) I  must have caught a really bad bug, thankfully everyone else in the house are safe and healthy :)

Today is another project I created for Sketch Support.  When looking at the card sketch and the dotted lines in a grid pattern I thought about origami.  Anna has this great step by step origami book and whenever there is a dotted line it means to fold and that is how I came up with creating a cootie catcher to interpret the card sketch.  Anna loves making cootie catchers so I'll tuck this one away in her lunch box for school for a little surprise.  I kept the heart theme and stitched panels on the outside of the catcher.

Here is also another cootie catcher I made a while back where I included lots of little photos and journaling in the project.  It is sort of like a year in review in 3D!

Washi Tape by Hambly

I first saw Washi tape a few years ago, since then scrapbook mfrs have come out with some beautiful designs in bright colours!  The ones I have shown here are by Hambly Screenprints.  I love using Washi tape- it is self- tearing, low tack and adheres so cleanly to paper.  I opted to use a white background under the tape to clearly show off the designs.  The Washi tape is vellum like and I think would be great to pair it with acetate or transparencies.

On my card (apologize for the low light in the photos but there is just no sunshine to be had lately! grr...) I simply used the tape as a decorative accent. I think the the teal woodgrain pattern is my favourite.

Two other products that I seem to be gravitating towards is Twinery (14 delicious colours)  and Authentique papers so don't be surprised if you see them pop up in future projects :)

Tic Tac Toe

Here is a card using the card sketch I posted earlier from Sketch Support.  When I saw the grid pattern I immediately thought of a Tic Tac Toe pattern.  I used twine to make the grid and X'O's are Quickutz Diesel font.
