Nikki Sivils Projects wrap-up

Here is my project for Sketch Support's one-page sketch.  I created a card for upcoming Father's day. The Nikki Sivils collection pack comes with a fun assortment of alphabets so I mixed and matched to create a little message sentiment.  Had a ton of fun this month playing with beautiful Nikki Sivils products for my Sketch Support assignments.

Later, I did create a one page layout using the same sketch (but it was after the deadline to send it along to Allison) so I'll just share it here:

Catching the Big One!

This week it is add-on week at Sketch Support which means Allison creates a single element that you can interpret any which way.  This month's add-on is the award ribbon. The moment this add-on sketch popped up on my computer screen I immediately knew I wanted to scrap Anna's win for the largest fish in last summer's fishing derby at our marina.  I was going for the bulletin board effect and wanted it to appear as if the awards were pinned randomly to the cork board.  The paper collection you may recognize already since I used in the last few Friday posts, it is the Exit collection by Nikki Sivils.

To celebrate the cross promotion with Nikki Sivils, Sketch Support is having a little giveaway and you can find the details here on this link.

The thin cork is by Karen Foster and is self adhering. I've had this cork paper for over 7 years and so glad I finally got a chance to use it, actually I am surprised I still knew where to find it as you would think after that many years it would get lost (okay I admit..I did search high and low for about half hour and was about to give up but glad I didn't!)

Anna's big catch was memorable for me.  I usually don't go out fishing with them but this time I decided to go and I was so glad to be there with my camera to capture all the action.  Lots of excitement reeling in the big one.

A little tug on the fishing line...
Reeling it in...
A great catch!
Just goes to show weather your fishing equipment is a Shimano or Barbie, you can be a great angler with either!  Anna has owned her Barbie fishing pole since the age of three (photos below) so it was probably time for an up-size...going into the big leagues now lol.

A trip to the Sportsman show this past Spring Anna picked out a new fishing rod (some would say a 'real one' but hey she did pretty good with her Barbie rod) .  Definitely looking forward to more fishing tales this summer.

First fish caught ever!

Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday long weekend!

Sharing a layout I created for Sketch Support.  This week's sketch is a 2 pager but I created a one page layout based on only the right side of the sketch.

I followed the sketch by placing the 3 larger photos across the page but instead of the smaller square photos as in the sketch I replaced them with with a circle journal element to tell the story behind each of the larger pictures.   I have used entirely Nikki Sivil Exit pattern papers.  Actually, all 4 of my assignments this month uses only Nikki Sivils.  Each collection pack comes with 2 of each pattern paper so that really helps to stretch the supplies to create all my projects.

A few months ago on Two Peas someone posted a site that converts your handwriting into a font and at the time the site was offering it for free so I gave it a shot and now I can type away on the computer and the journaling is in my own handwriting- pretty neat!  The name of the website escapes me right now but if I ever see it again for free I'll be sure to post about it.

For my monthly blog tutorial for Scrapbook and Cards Today I wanted to make a card for my Mom with some added special details.  Creating a window in your card is a fun way to introduce layers because you can dress it up on the outside, in-between the window and the inside the card to create a little story.

My mom is a talented sewer and I used the Sew Easy die-namics and stamp set from My Favourite Things.  The pattern paper is My Mind's Eye and I also used some Memory Box dies (the spring flower border and the delicate heart shape).

I used the ornament frame die from Sizzix to create the window.  The finished card measures 6 x 5 inches and I chose this size because it would be easy to centre the die into the middle of the card.  You can change it up depending on the die or punch you are using

Position the pattern paper over the card front and use remove-able tape to attach together (I use washi tape).  Roll the front of the card/pattern paper together through the Sizzix die to create the window.

It does take a little bit of extra planning in layer your embellishments and for my Mom she will be all smiles when she opens it and that alone is totally worth it!

Hope you all had some time to do a little bit of crafting this past NSD weekend.  I didn't finish a craft project per se but I did have loads of fun on Saturday with Sherrie Siemens in Toronto colouring and learning lots in the Copic Marker Intermediate Certification class.  Thank you Sherrie for spending time with us, you were fantastic and a trooper being under the weather (hope you didn't lose your voice too much)

I had taken the beginner Copic certification with Marianne Walker 4 years ago at CHA.  She is a phenom artist and is an A-MA-ZING colourer.  I downloaded this cute image from her blog...this litle girl reminds me of Anna (who is pretty good with her  (I mean my) copics...I think she would have enjoyed the class with me).

Scrapbook and Cards Today had round the clock challenges and inspiration on NSD Saturday.  If you didn't have time over the weekend to follow along the hourly fun, there are lots of prizes and give-aways that are still open, you can start here at the beginning!

For Scrapbook and Cards Today's NSD's last hourly challenge I made this card.   We all have a corner rounder in our tool tote right?  I have the Creative Memories corner rounder, one of the first tools I purchased when I started scrapping and every time I use that corner rounder  I marvel at how it rounds the corner so easily and perfectly, kinda a Martha Stewart moment...'it really is a good thing'!

National Scrapbook Day- (updated with winner!)

Wishing all paper crafters a happy National Scrapbook Day!.  I hope that you will have some time to play with a little glue and paper!

Earlier this week I mentioned the Sketch Support creative team is playing with fun papers from Nikki Sivils and our projects will be posted every Friday in May at Sketch Support.  Also Allison is giving away some prizes too- it is going to be a great month!

Here is my project using May's Sketch Support card sketch and Nikki Sivils Exit papers.  I love the simplicity of the card sketch and extended the vertical circles as the focal point of the page. Other than the adorable photo, my favourite element is the hot air balloon being pulled by the camper.

Happy May!

It's May and I am delighted to joining in the fun in a month long cross promotion between Sketch Support and Nikki Sivils!  Each of the Sketch Support creative team members were given a Nikki Sivils collection of their choice and I am excited to see everyone's projects based on Sketch Support's May's sketches!

I chose the Exit collection.  Initially I though about using it to scrap some of our travels but somehow I ended up using them for non-travel projects, love that this collection is so versatile!
Anyhoo...excited to show you my Sketch Support project using this week's card sketch when it is posted...hint hint...I totally fell in love with the the camper! Stay tuned :)
