Still snow covered...

Since it is still winter white outside I thought I would share a few pics of Anna's history display on early Inuit culture.  She created a cross-section of an igloo using marshmallows.  The key is LOTS of icing sugar and a balloon in the centre or gravity will takeover!  Inside she made a twig platform , a seal oil lamp and a pair of boots.

She made most of the objects with modelling clay, this is very cool stuff because it's like play-doh and once you bake it, you can paint and draw on it.

I don't mind winters, especially when there is blanket of snow covering the ground and the white really brightens up what would have been a grey abd cloudy day.

Stay safe and warm!

Double Pocket Criss Cross Card

Hello, today I would like to share with you my open double pocket criss-cross card.  The multiple pockets make this a fun card to tuck in extra messages or gift cards. My card is a variation of the criss-cross card posted on Scorpal's website.  The pattern papers are by Simple Stories (love the bright and fun colours!)

Supplies: Simple Stories pattern paper, Bazzil kraft card stock, The Twinery twine, Scor-tape, Scor-pal tool, EK success circle/border punches.

To create the double pocket criss cross card:

1. Take two 11 x 5.5 card stock pieces and score each in half at 5.5 inches.  Take one piece, cut the left flap on the diagonal and on the 2nd piece, cut the right flap on the diagonal.

2. Take one of the triangle and place it onto the middle flap offest about 1/4 inch from the bottom and the spine and trace the 'v' line at the top.   Repeat for the other side.

3. Cut the 'v' at the top and glue the flap down with adhesive on the sides and bottom to form a pocket.

4. Cross the outside flaps with adhesive along the bottom edge to create the 2nd pocket.

5. Decorate and add tags.

Splitcoast Stampers Lovefest

Splitcoast Stampers is featuring Scor-pal today for Lovefest.  Lots of great inspiration all week from Splitcoast's promotional partners.  Details on the Scor-pal blog here.

Scor-pal's team was given the challenge theme 'Flips, flaps and oodles of folds'. I love cards that flip and flop and created a card front with 'fluttering' panels.  All six panels are scored and folded so that they flip and flop which gives the card an extra fun element.  The pattern papers are My Mind's Eye Follow your Heart paper collection.

Simple punch technique to add some pop!

Good morning! it's my turn to post at Scrapbook and Cards Today blog and wanted to share with you a quick tip on using the negatives of your punches.  I chose a heart punch for my example today but this will work for any symmetrical shape like scalloped flowers, butterflies, diamonds, circles etc.

Inspired by the ever so popular hand-heart gesture I took the negatives of two hearts and placed them together making one heart as the focal point of my card.

Cut two paper mats larger than the size of your punch.  Punch or die cut the heart on both mats in the same spot offset a bit.  In my example, I used a scalloped rectangle mat and 2 different pattern papers.

Fold along the middle of the negative heart shapes and join the two pieces together to form one single heart.  The flared folds in the middle also give your heart a little pop and you can stamp a smaller message inside the heart too!  Save the punched out hearts for your card.

Didn’t I say it was EASY!!

I am thrilled to be teaching at Scrapfest Kitchener again and here is a peek at some of my classes.
Registration details and info are on Scrapfest's website.

1. "When Life gives you photos, make scrapbooks"- this workshop is all about enjoying the creative journey in doing what you love- scrapbooking the people and memories you cherish and adore.

We are going to create scrapbook pages to our hearts contents in this workshop. It will be like a scrapbooking playground - a place to play, learn, and be inspired!

The design inspiration for this workshop is my love of geometric shapes and I had fun putting a little creative spin on them into my page designs.  I like bright colours and love layering beautiful pattern papers, diecuts, and accents in just the right amounts to make your photos shine!

Yummy products we will play with are My Mind's Eye papers (thank you My Minds' Eye!) plus lots of other fabulous goodies such as chipboard shapes, felt appliques, alphabets, diecuts, and ribbons trims.  We will use some uber cool washi tape (thank you Downtown Tape!) on our pages too!

In class, we will create 3 double page layouts and I have given you bonus supplies/instructions to finish 2 more double page layouts.  Throughout the class I will share lots of ideas and ways to add pizzazz to your pages!

2. "The Magic of Disney- Mini Album"-this is a workshop dedicated to the happiest place on earth- Disney!  I had a smile on my face the entire time I was designing this class, makes me want to book another trip very soon!

The focus of this workshop will be spent making the mini album.  I created an album template using file folders.  This fabulous mini is loaded with lots of nooks and crannies that flip, flop, and lift- lots of room for happy memories.  I was very intentional in the design making sure the album pages are sized to fit a large number of good sized photos, practical to mail the mini to friends or family, the album is expandable if you like lots of dimensional embellies, and the album pages flips and fold out in many variations so that you can have fun telling your story.

In class, we will create the mini from start to finish taking our time to score, fold, and assemble the album foundation because once you master and understand how it all comes together your mind will be racing with lots of ideas!  This mini is so versatile for other celebrations such as weddings, birthdays, holidays, summer vacations...the list is endless.

In addition to making the mini album in class, we will embellish a file folder for your Disney tickets, brochures, and ephemera which slips easily into a 12 x 12 page protector, AND we will  create an adorable 12 x 12 page featuring Ms. Minnie. Plus you will have bonus supplies/instructions to create 2 more double pagers for you to finish on your own.  As Mickey would shout out- fun , wow, awesome!

3. "Amazing Card tricks".  We will use the Scor-pal tool (thank you Scor-pal!) and My Mind's Eye papers to make some really cool cards that are like magic tricks, pull one tab, and something pops out the other end.  Open up a card and curtains slide to reveal a message.  We will also use action wobbles to shake things up!

In class we will take our time to make the moving mechanism of each card and I think you will absolutely be hooked on making these card tricks again and again!  These birthday cards will truly delight anyone so lucky to receive them, lots of smiles and giggles for sure, hope you can join in the fun!
